connects people in need with resources and counseling
(public and private) in the areas of health care, child
abuse, drug and alcohol dependency, job loss, bereavement,

Lunch Box Kids
Summer
vacation should be a welcome relief for all children.
But
for those who rely on government subsidized school lunch
programs, summer recess can mean the loss of their only
nutritional meal of the day. To make sure that no child goes
hungry
during the summer when school lunch is not available,
HRH
provides every child with all of the staples needed to make
a
nutritional lunch for every day school is not in session.
This includes sandwich makings such as peanut butter, jelly,
tuna
and
bread, as well as milk, juice, crackers, and more.
Serve Our Seniors SOS offers a helping hand for small maintenance and repair
jobs that often pose insurmountable problems for seniors
living on fixed or little income. Often at the mercy of
disreputable contractors and unable to do the work
themselves, seniors – especially those who live alone -- have
a hard time with tasks such as house repairs, yard work, and
appliance maintenance. Through the SOS program, we send a
handyman to take care of these tasks at no or reduced cost. Call 283-6415
Senior
Lunch On
the second Monday of every month from April through
December, a group of local seniors gets together in Room 100
Parish Hall,
168 Hill
St.
in
Southampton
for a
nice lunch, good conversation, some lively games of bingo,
and often a birthday celebration, all at no charge. Most are
regulars who come every month, and sometimes they bring a
friend along. Newcomers are always welcome and rides can be
arranged. Call 283-6415.
Care
for the Caregiver
This
program delivers a hot, home cooked meal to people who are
terminally ill along with their whole family. The idea is to
give the caregivers a night of rest when they do not have to
think about cooking while caring for a terminally ill
person. Call 283-6415.
Back Pack Kids
Kids
who are poor know they are poor. Poverty is a painful
reality that is constantly reinforced every day. HRH
recognizes the importance of having confidence for a fresh
start on that first day of school. “One day a year,”
director Mary Ann Tupper explains, “these kids get to go
to school like everyone else. They get a new backpack filled
with school supplies, new sneakers and a new outfit.
KISS Kids in Safety Seats
Will help keep all local children safely buckled up in
appropriate car seats. Because the law requires children up
to age seven to be in car seats, HRH lends car seats to
those who cannot afford to buy them. Once the child outgrows
the seat, it can be turned in for the next larger size.
Those needing seats must provide a prescription from their
pediatrician indicating the weight of the child and the need
for the seat.
Emergency
Financial Assistance
Emergency
funds for rental assistance to families who have had
catastrophic illnesses, accidents and fires or families
unable to fund medical prescriptions and equipment are
provided. Emergency heating fuel, automobile fuel and other
emergency needs are also made available. Call 283-6415.
Holiday
Meals and Toys
Many local residents have come to
know us through our holiday meal program. Every year, from
Thanksgiving through Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah, the
large auditorium on
Hill
Street
becomes a beehive of activity, as dozens of volunteers form
an assembly line to arrange holiday food packages and
wrapped gifts for more than 3,000 local citizens. Every
child receives a new toy, stocking stuffers and new
clothing. Every family gets a large carton of fixings for a
festive holiday meal. We do everything we can to bring some
relief and happiness to families who struggle during the
holiday season.
