Southampton, NY -Southampton High School junior Alyxandra Tortorice designed the winning logo for this year’s Polar Bear Plunge. Alyx is a student in Gail Altomare’s art class at S.H.S. Her logo will be used on promotional items for the Plunge, including newspaper ads, hats, buttons and posters.

This is the fifth annual Polar Bear Plunge.  Mrs. Altomare’s  students  have
created a new logo each year. “It’s fun and it’s good to do things for the
community.” she said.

Twelve students competed this year: Kirsten Smith, Nicholas Acquino,
William Pessoa, Thomas Gallo, Kelsey Bourke, Anthony Nieto, Keely Corton,
Grace Conklin, Luis Alfaro, Abigail Bonilla, and  Alyxandra Tortorice.

Polar Bear Plunge 2009 will be held at Cooper’s Beach on Saturday, Dec. 12th.
Last year, more than 500 local people jumped in, raising $100,000 for HRH,
which provides basic services for local needy families. Local firefighters, ambulance volunteers, police officers, teachers, and businesses all give their time and talents for the cause.
