2007 - The food drive was organized by the SIS Student Council. A group of student leaders delivered the canned goods to the HRH pantry just time for Thanksgiving.  HRH Director Mary Ann Tupper gave the students a tour of the facility and talked with them about other opportunities for helping those in need. "The world is changing, and one generation can't do everything. It's our turn now," said eighth-grader Juliette Behringer. "This whole experience has propelled my desire to help others."

Holiday Giving Day 2006

holiday giving day 2006Supported by funds from the Polar Bear Plunge, this year's Giving Day was bigger than ever. It is a labor of love that takes months of planning, directed by HRH Board President Nannette Meyers, who volunteers thousands of hours all year long, getting ready for the Big Day. "I'm grateful to so many local people, who help with this event every year. Everyone who works on this has a happier holiday themselves."

Helping Katrina Victims

Southampton Sends Help to New Orleans

HRH served as the staging area for receiving and packaging donated supplies to send to Hurricane Katrina victims in the Gulf States. Volunteers worked for more than a week sorting and packing donated clothes, pampers, food and school supplies. Three different trucks were loaded and sent from Southampton to carefully pre-arranged sites in the  New Orleans area where recipients were waiting to meet the trucks and make sure the supplies were properly distributed.

Run For Hunger

RUN FOR HUNGER RAISES $16,400 FOR HRH

Southampton Intermediate School students turned out in their sneakers on Monday, June 5th in a competitive run which combined healthy exercise with community service. This year, the Run for Hunger raised $16,400.

This annual event raises funds for the Lunch Box Kids Program of Human Resources of the Hamptons. For children who receive federally-subsidized lunch in school, Lunch Box Kids provides a nutritious lunch every day that school is not in session during the summer months.

Organized by the administrative staff of SIS, the Run for Hunger has several categories of competition, with prizes for the winners. Students get friends and family to sponsor their participation with donations to HRH.

The Lunch Box Kids Program receives additional support from many local residents, organizations, and businesses. Each year, Southampton Masonry provides the T-shirts.
